Music highlights

The audio of the film was released recently. There are five songs in the album. ‘Kelungaiyaa,’ the first song written and sung by Gangai Amaran, is probably the best. ‘Chumma Chumma,’ penned by Piraisoodan, is a beautiful duet by Krish and Chinmayi. ‘Kandravi Kaadal,’ written by Ilayakamban and sung by Shankar Mahadevan and Mahathi, is another good number. Next comes ‘Survey Survey Survesa,’ an interesting song in the voice of Vijay Jesudas, and written by director Sanjayram himself. ‘Sumba Sumba Payya,’ sung by Anuradha Sriram and Premji Amaran and written by Ilayakamban, is a song that will appeal to the masses.

What they say…

Producer ‘Azhagan’ Thamizhmani: I was going through a rough patch after making a couple of films. So I shifted to the small screen. One day, I met Gemini Pictures’ Manohar Prasad who was surprised that I had stopped making films for want of money. He offered to finance my project. That’s how I turned to film production again. I must thank him for this opportunity. I am confident I have a hit on hand.

Director Sanjayram: When Thamizhmani came to me with a project, I was very much interested in it as he is known to be one of the kind-hearted producers in the industry. Meenkothi has action, sentiment and romance in good measure. Inspired by a real-life story that took place in Tirunelveli District, the film has been shot in Chennai, Achankoil, Kuttralam and Kodaikanal.

Hero Ajay Krishna: I always aspired to be in front of the camera. When I expressed this desire to my father (‘Azhagan’ Tamizhmani), he brushed it aside. Undeterred, I approached some film companies, where they asked me, ‘Why is your father not giving you a break?’ When I told my dad this, he immediately started this production. I learnt dance under Kala master and stunts from Jaguar Thangam. I have done my best and thank my dad and the technical crew for their support.

Music director Dhina: The film has come out well and the songs are catchy. As I had to leave on a foreign tour, I couldn’t do the re-recording for the film and music director Bose Santhosh came to our rescue.

Music director Bose Santhosh: I learnt music from my father, Chandrabose, who has scored the music for more than 300 films. I have worked as a keyboard player for many popular music directors and composed the background score for Meenkothi, at the instance of the producer and director who were impressed with my re-recording for the Malayalam film “Sandwich”. Apart from another upcoming film in Tamil Deva Kumaran, I am working on Kannada and other language films.
