Produced by V. Ravichandran, Aascar Films’ Maryan , is directed by Bharat Bala, has music by A. R. Rahman and features Dhanush and Parvathy in the lead. Others playing important roles are Appukkutty, Uma Riyaz, Jagan, Saleem Kumar, Ankoor Vikal and Vinayagam. The camera is handled by Marc Konixs, while editing is by Vivek Harshan. The audio was released by A.R.Rahman and the first copy was received by director Bharat Bala. The story is about a fisherman who depends on deep sea fishing for a livelihood.

A.R.Rahman once again mesmerises with his compositions. There are seven songs in the film. Sung by Rahman, ‘Nenjae Yezhu’ has been written by him along with Kutti Revathi. Next is ‘Kadal Rasa Naan’ sung by Yuvan Shankar Raja and written by actor Dhanush. ‘Inum Konjam Naeram’, sung by Vijay Prakash and Shweta Mohan and written by Kabilan and Rahman, is a winner. Veteran lyricist Vaale’s words sound more beautiful in ‘Naetru Aval Irundhal’ sung by Vijay Prakash and Chinmayi. ‘Sonapareeya’ sung by Javed Ali, Haricharan, Nakash Aziz and written by Vaale has a catchy rap segment by Sofia Ashraf. ‘Yenga Pona Raasa’, sung by Sakthishree Gopalan and written by Kutti Revathi and Rahman is again appealing. ‘I love my Africa’, sung by Rahman and Blaze, blends interesting sounds. The song has been written by Blaze and Brian Kabwe.

Producer V.Ravichandran: I have produced 78 films in all the south Indian languages, but it’s the Tamil films that stand out. This film is an entertainer made not just for a Tamil audience but for global audiences too. With cinematography by internationally-acclaimed cameraman Marc Konixs, the visuals are exceptionally good. No vulgar shots, no dialogues with double entendre or political satire; audiences will lap up the screenplay and, of course, A. R. Rahman’s music.
Director Bharat Bala: I’ve directed one feature film Hari Om and several other projects too, the most popular among them being ‘Vandemataram.’ Maestro A.R.Rahman has directed the music for all my projects. I directed the opening and closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games 2010. Besides, I have 200 short films and 500 ads to my credit. My film on Nobel Prize winners Gurus of Peace is a hit with viewers where ever it is screened. I wanted to direct a feature film in Tamil and thought Maryan made an interesting subject. Dhanush has done a wonderful job as the fisherman. The trailer has got a half million hits already on YouTube. Each song traverses different emotions — love, separation, struggle, survival and awakening.
Hero Dhanush:Maryan was an enjoyable experience. Director Bharat Bala and his technical team are wonderful. They plan the day’s work meticulously; their approach to work is truly professional. When Bharat Bala told me the story I was delighted to play the role which was different from the ordinary. And when I learnt A.R.Rahman was going to score the music I thought the battle had already been won; we had a winner on hand.
