What it is about…

Rethna Films’ Maaman Manasila is produced by Rethna Ramesh who has also played the lead in it. Jayshree plays the heroine, and Jagin, the villain. E. S. Naga has scored the music; Deepak Shetty has handled the camera; and Anand has edited the film. Besides taking care of the screenplay, dialogue and direction, Ravi Thambi has played an important role. The audio of the film was recently released by actor Charu Haasan and received by T.P. Gajendran and Vadivukarasi. The story is about the custom of marrying a girl to her maternal uncle and the problems they face.

Music highlights

There are four songs in the album, three of which are written by V.P. Malaisamy and one (‘Ganaapatu’) by C. Punniya. ‘Usurukkul,’ sung by Jagan Kalyan and Madhu Iyer, is the best. ‘Aana Avanna,’ sung by Balamurugan, is another interesting number. Jayakumar, Martin and Madhu Iyer have rendered ‘Unakke Ubayamai.’ ‘Ganaapatu,’ which comes last, is sung well by K. K. Karna.

What they say…

Producer and hero Rethna Ramesh: I played the lead in Vachathi directed by the Ravi Thambi. I like his style of filmmaking. So while shooting for Vachathi itself, we decided to team up on more films. Maman Manasile is the first in line. The story is about how a family forces a young girl to marry her uncle despite his age and the problems the couple face.

Director Ravi Thambi: I have done seven films in Tamil and three in Malayalam. Vachathi, based on a real-life incident, got me recognition. This film is also based on a real story I heard from one of my friends. I am sure it’s powerful message will go down well with the people.

Music director E. S. Naga: I run a troupe called ‘Vande Matharam’. One of my friends suggested my name to producer Rethna Ramesh and gave my CD to him to sample my music. Maaman Manasila is the big break I have been waiting for and I hope people like my compositions.
