What it is about…

The audio of Magic Media Works’ Konjam Koffee Konjam Kaadhal was released by Kamal Haasan and received by the whole unit. Hridayaraaj and Aditi play the lead, while Saravana Subbaiah, Uma Padmanabhan, Shylaja, Kavithalaya Krishnan, Lakshmi Priya, Madhu, Krishna Anand, Subashini, Aarti Tandon, Satya and Mahaa Keerthi comprise the supporting cast. Nasser, Revathi and Ashok make guest appearances. The story, screenplay and direction are by Venky, while D. S. Vasan is the cinematographer. Phani Kalyan has scored the music.

Music highlights

There are seven numbers in the album, and the first one is the best. Sung by Prasanna and Neha Nair and written by Arivumadhi, ‘Kaadhalae’ is a melodious number with two interludes, one western and the other classical. The classical interlude is in raga Hamsadhwani and the song gradually switches to a semi-classical style. Chitraa Venky has written three songs — ‘Uyir Thozha’, ‘Konjam Koffee’ and ‘Chakrakatti.’ ‘Uyir Thozha,’ sung by Nivas, Gaythri SG, Shakthisree Gopalan, Phani Kalyan and Abhay Jodhpurkar, is sure to go down well with the listeners. The title song has a shade of the Blues and is set to Rock ‘n’ Roll music. ‘Sakkarakatti’ is another beautiful duet by Yazin Nizar and Pooja. The same song comes as a dance mix rendered by Phani Kalyan and Ranina Reddy. ‘Adhi Thaahira’ has meaningful lines by Palani Bharathi and sung by Sathya Prakash, Sharanya Srinivasan and Swarna Swami. ‘I Love You,’ written by Adithi Deborah and sung by Mann Taneja, is another romantic number.

What they say…

Producer and director Venky: I have done a number of short, documentary and corporate films. When I decided to make a romantic film, I thought of casting new faces. There are as many as 16 in the film alongside some popular artistes. It’s a feel-good film about how romance blossoms in a coffee shop. I think I have a winner.

Hero Hridayraaj: I started as a child artiste — I played the role of Kamal Basheer, one of the twins of Arvind Swamy and Manisha Koirala in Bombay . I have acted in several ad films. After finishing my engineering, I realised my heart was in acting. When I got the offer to act in Konjam Koffee Konjam Kadhal, I was excited. Here I play the role of an uncompromising and determined youth wanting to live life on his own terms. When the film was screened to a select gathering, my performance was appreciated and I expect the same reaction from the audience too.

Music director Phani Kalyan: I belong to the first batch of students of A. R. Rahman’s KM Music Conservatory. I studied Western vocals and composition there with prior training in Carnatic vocal and keyboard. I am a software engineer-turned-musician. Pappu in Telugu was my debut flick. Konjam Koffee Konjam Kadhal is my second feature film, but first in Tamil. I must thank director Venky for the opportunity.
