What it is about…
Escape Artists Motion Pictures’ Desingu Raja , written and directed by S. Ezhil, is a comedy film with love and sentiment thrown in for good measure. Yugabharathi has written the lyrics, and D. Imman has scored the music. While Vemal and Bindhu Madhavi play the lead roles, Suri, Charlie, Singam Puli, Singamuthu, Ravi Mariya, Charms, “Adukalam” Naren and Vadivukkarasi appear in supporting roles. The audio of the film was released with much fanfare at a function attended by the big wigs in the Tamil film industry.
Music highlights
There are 10 songs in the album of which five are karaoke versions. ‘Yaarume Kekkave Illa’ is a youthful song crooned by the legendary S.P. Balasubramaniam. The a cappella and choir interludes by the El Fe choir in the song deserve special mention. ‘Ammadi Ammadi’ by Shreya Ghoshal that follows is good. ‘Oru Ora Ora Parvai’ rendered by Balram is melodious; the use of nadaswaram and the string section will be talked about. ‘Nilavattam Nethiyile’ sung by P. Unnikrishnan and Harini is sure to attract listeners as it is a folk number with heavy percussion. Vijay Prakash’s resonant voice comes as a pleasant surprise in ‘Pom Pom Pom.’

Producer P. Madhan: I joined director Gautham Vasudev Menon to produce Kaaka Kaaka, Varanam Aayiram, Vinnaithandi Varuvaya and Nadunisi Naigal and also produced Azhagar Samiyin Kuthirai and Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga . Now I am making Desingu Raja and Varuthapadatha Valibargal Sangam . I am in talks with other producers to have a solo release of this film.
Director S. Ezhil: I feel doing a comedy film is a tough proposition. I wrote the script but since I was not happy with it I improvised on it at the shooting spot. After finishing the shooting, I saw the film and decided to shoot for another 10 days. This made the film more interesting.
Hero Vemal: After Kalakalappu, I got this film which is also a comedy. My name in this film is Idhayakani. I was happy to work for the same production house that made my earlier film, Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga . Vinu Chakravarthi is back to acting after a gap of some years and I am happy to be sharing screen space with him.
Music director D. Imman: It was fun scoring the music for Desingu Raja . Some of the scenes made me laugh much more than I thought. I enjoyed each and every minute of it.
