What it is about…
Latha Cine Creations’ Anjal Thurai is produced by P. Chinnusamy and directed by A.R. Rafi, who has also written the story, screenplay and dialogue, and taken care of editing and cinematography. A horror film, it is set in an evening college. The cast comprises Mohan, Sowparnika, Narayanan, Kushbu Mukerji, Tamil Selvan, Senthil, Pandu, Vadivukkarasi, ‘Bonta’ Mani, Aaryan, Benjamin and Kovai Senthil. Hithesh has scored the music. The audio of the film was released by actor Namitha and received by director R.V. Udhayakumar.
Music Highlights
There are five songs in the film. ‘Varuvan Varaan,’ written by A.K. Muthuvel, is sung by Anand. The same lyricist’s ‘Pungamarathile,’ sung by Pavan, and Padmalatha, is sure to appeal to listeners. The other three numbers are written by the director himself. ‘Kokkarakko’ sung by Prabhu is good. This is followed by ‘Iravu Neram’ in two versions. The peppy one is sung by Chinmayi, while Priyadharshini has rendered the pathos-filled number.

Producer P. Chinnusamy: I am in the construction business. I have been interested in making a movie. Impressed with the absorbing storyline narrated by Rafi, I decided to produce the film. It has come out well and I am sure of its success.
Director A.R. Rafi:Puthiya Payanam was my directorial debut and I followed it up with a couple of movies. As the story of Anjal Thurai takes place in the night, we shot it in natural light. I have written the screenplay in such a way nobody will be able to guess who the villain is. I think this movie will turn out to be the best horror movie of the year.
Hero Mohan: Being a newcomer, I simply followed the instructions of the director. When I saw the rushes, I was happy with the outcome. Whoever saw the film told me that I didn’t look like a newcomer.
Music director Hidesh: I am a violinist. I have worked for G.K. Venkatesh, M.S. Viswanathan, S.A. Rajkumar, T. Rajender and many other music directors in Telugu, Kannada and other languages. Panthaiyapura, Thirumangalam Perunthu Nilayam, Vachikkava, Perandi, Raman Andalum Ravanan Andalum and Sethukkarai are some of my yet-to-be-released films. I have scored the music for a couple of Rafi’s earlier films. When he told me the story, I liked it — the horror genre has given me enough scope to showcase my composing skills.
