What it is about…
Sri Balaji Cine Creations’ Kanpesum Varthaigal, produced by R. Saravanakumar and directed by R. Balaji, is a love a story with a difference. The cast comprises ‘Mirchi’ Senthil, Iniya, Murugadass, Madhumitha, Livingston and “Nan Kadavul” Rajendran. The film’s editor is V.J. Joseph; the art director is Edward A. Kennedy; and the music composer, Shamanth. R. Saravanakumar has written the story and R. Balaji, the screenplay. Viveka is the lyricist. The audio of the film was released recently.

Producer R. Saravanakumar: I am an engineer and was in Singapore for the past 15 years. Recently I made Chennai home. When my brother Balaji wanted to do a film, I mentioned a storyline and he was happy with it. He has made it into a fine film.
Director R. Balaji: I have been in the industry for the past 20 years and worked with director Shankar as his executive producer from Kadhal to Rettai Suzhi . So I know how to make a movie in a short span of time. My brother suggested a plot which I thought would make a good film. When he saw the screenplay he was impressed and agreed to produce the film. We have shot more than 75 per cent of the movie in Singapore and the rest in Tiruvarur.
Hero ‘Mirchi’ Senthil: I am an RJ and a TV actor. I have acted in films such as Thavamai Thavamirunthu, Sengathu Bhoomiyile and Evano Oruvan . When the director called me for a narration he recalled my performance in the Vijay TV serial Saravanan Meenaskhi. This is the first film in which I play the lead. They told me that it was going to be shot in Singapore. I was happy to accept offer for I hadn’t visited the country before. Iniya and I have worked hard.
Music director Shamanth: I was born in a family of musicians — my grandmother and aunt were Carnatic musicians. But I was attracted to western violin after seeing Yanni’s concert in Delhi. I learnt to play the violin for eight years and finished my 8th grade in piano in western classical. I have scored the music for nearly 150 short films and one in Telugu. When director Balaji approached me to work on his film, I was very happy. The film has come out well.
Music highlights
‘Madhivadhani’ is a melodious song sung by Vijay Prakash. Based on the Swarakshara concept, the swaras and the syllables of the song are set to a common timing. ‘Peyar Illa Mozhiyilae’, sung by Vijay Yesudas and Harini, is beautiful. ‘Aaram Arivilae,’ sung by Haricharan and Ramya NSK, is set in Maya Malava Goula, but with a western touch. ‘Kopaiyil’ is a youthful number rendered by Velmurugan, Jassie Gift, Jude Chris and Yeshwanth. It has Indian and western rhythms with rap elements. ‘Kanpesum Varthai’ is the title number sung by the music director himself. ‘Peyar Illa Mozhiyilae’ gets repeated as the theme song sung by Shravya and Yeshwanth.
