Ang Lee has won the Academy Award for best director for his “Life of Pi.”

It’s the second Oscar for Lee, who won in 2005 for “Brokeback Mountain.” The Taiwanese director was also nominated in 2000 for directing “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.” He becomes only the 19th director to win the honour multiple times.

The other nominees Sunday night were Steve Spielberg (“Lincoln”), Michael Haneke (“Amour“), David O. Russell (“Silver Linings Playbook”) and Benh Zeitlin (“Beasts of the Southern Wild”).

This year’s directing category was one of the most controversial, as it left out Ben Affleck for “Argo” and Kathryn Bigelow for “Zero Dark Thirty.”

The 85th Academy Awards are being aired live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles with host Seth MacFarlane.

"Life of Pi" is I think one rare film that one can see over and over again and still
marvel at it. I'm thrilled to hear that Ang Lee has won the Oscar for the Best Director
Award. He truly deserves the Award. And I highly recommend that everyone see this
exceptional film at a cinema that has 3D facility in it. It's a film that surpasses all
language barriers and takes you to another space and time

I would like to congratulate Mr Lee for his win. Life of Pi was a
fantastic and amazing movie. Mr Lee beautifully adapted the novel on the
screen creating wonders. No doubt, he deserved it. Moreover, I have a
personal reason to be happy as it was a movie with an Indian cast.
Seeing India on an international stage is always a matter of pride.
