Adaminte Makan Abu , national award-winning Malayalam film, has been nominated as India's official entry for the coming Oscar Academy Awards.

The Oscar Nomination Committee of the Film Federation of India selected the film from 16 films shortlisted by affiliated associations.

The film had bagged three other national awards for best actor, best cinematographer and best background score.

Chairman of the 16-member committee B. Lenin told journalists here on Friday that Adaminte Makan Abu , directed by Salim Ahamed, was chosen for projecting human values and communal harmony. With a simple plot, the film also conveyed the message of environment conservation.

Others in the race

Two other films that were in the race were another Malayalam film Urumi and No one Killed Jessica (Hindi).

The response to the call for applications for entries for the best foreign language film award was lukewarm. Regional associations must create awareness among producers about the international platform for their movies, Mr. Lenin said.

Enthiran, Aadukalam, Muran, Deiva Thirumagal and Ko were the Tamil films recommended for the nomination.

Ravi Kotarrakara, honorary secretary of the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce, said the Central government must support such initiatives, as nearly Rs.4 crore would be spent on film promotion in the award ceremony.

Last year, the Oscar Committee had submitted Peepli Live (Hindi) for the category.
