“It's a mission to arouse the conscience of the masses to do something for the nation.”These were the words of talented singer Sukhwinder Singh pertaining to “Kuchh Kariye”, the film with which the artiste begins his innings in Bollywood as an actor too. Sukhwinder, along with his co-star in the film Shriya and director and producer Jagbir Dahiya, had come down to promote the film at Spice Cinemas Gold Class Lounge.
“Kuchh Kariye”, which was released on Friday, deals with the current socio-political scenario. By portraying the journey of a man meeting his destiny and coming to terms with his own self, it sheds light on relevant issues of society. Explaining the title “Kuchh Kariye”, Sukhwinder said, “We wanted to change the thinking of society, and media is the best platform for that. We are caught in the cobweb of gender, cast and creed. The movie is an effort to wipe out that web.”
Having been others' voice all this while, how does it feel to sing for himself? “When I playback for others, I never think that I am singing for the other. I always sing for the situation and the theme of movie. It's the same case here but, of course, I had a new feel.”
He added, “There is great similarity between me and my character of Rishi in the film. He is a musician who loves his country, and so do I. It's just a change of name. I had suggested Mr. Dahiya to make a totally commercial film but he said he wanted to make a film fruitful for the society.”
Though it was difficult to act but like Arjuna, who could only see eyes of the bird, his sole concentration was on the personality of Rishi. Shriya, who plays his love interest in the movie, agreed.
“We shot very few scenes of the film in the first 10 days. Sukhwinder used to come and observe everybody's work. It seemed he was preparing his mind for the act. A singer feels and speaks the emotions of the character but an actor has to feel, speak and act those emotions. Sukhwinder did it perfectly. He was creating the act in his mind and after 10 days when he performed, we were actually surprised.”
