You started as a heroine but did not make it big in the industry…
When I started years ago, I did not bother much about honing my acting skills. My first film was Vazhaiyadi Vazhai, directed by K. S. Gopalakrishnan. It was a success. But, unfortunately, I did not have anyone to guide me in the field. So I began to act in Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam films.
Do you think you have carved a niche for yourself in the industry, playing the mother's role?
Luck plays a major role in our lives. I have acted in nearly 600 films in all the four South Indian languages and in Hindi, but I don't think I have got my due.
Are you happy with what you have achieved so far?
Certainly not! Despite having worked with almost all the heroes in the four South Indian languages, I have not achieved much. I always wonder what could be the reason. Somewhere, I have lost the race. However, I am not one to lose hope.
Can you name five of your films you would like your grandchildren to watch?
Vazhaiyadi Vazhai, Ore Sakshi, Deivamsham, Shankarlal and Kaadu (Malayalam).
Tell us about your experience on the small screen.
I hear that I am doing a good job in serials. But here too I don't get to play powerful roles. As I have been in the industry for so long, everybody knows me well; but I am yet to do a role where I can showcase my acting prowess.
