THE FESTIVAL

The MetroPlus Theatre Festival aims to bring the best of English Theatre to the Chennai Audiences - from the city and from the rest of the country.

The Festival runs for eleven days with a scintillating schedule of ten public performances of nine different plays, offering a bonus to youngsters during this period - an opportunity to interact with theatre professionals.

The event features nine plays, five from groups in Chennai, two from Mumbai and one each from Bangalore and Delhi. All the groups are performing at the festival by invitation. All Chennai theatre groups will stage only new plays, while theatre groups from outside Chennai will stage only plays that have not been performed earlier in the city.

The plays will be of 90 to 120 minutes duration, including a break. Seven plays will be staged at the Sivagami Pethachi Auditorium and two at The Music Academy

Plays will be staged in the evening on August 5(Fri), 6(Sat), 7(Sun), 10(Wed), 11(Thu), 12(Fri), 13(Sat), 14(Sun) and 15(Mon). Parallel mini events are planned at the venue on all days to enliven the festival mood.

Entry tickets are priced at Rs 300, Rs. 200 and Rs 100. Tickets will be available at Landmark and Odyssey. Tickets will also be available online.

As part of the festival, professionals will conduct workshops on the various aspects of theatre on August 8 and 9 for those interested in pursuing theatre as a career choice. There will be no shows on the workshop days.
