The clash of fandoms

Suits’ season 7 première looks promising, but can it soothe the GoT fever?

If the first episode is any indication, law will be taking a plush, corporate backseat to drama once again, in the latest season of Suits premièring in India tonight. A pre-release viewing — aired for a lucky few in six cities — promises all the fashion, ambition, turmoil and legal chessplay that kept the TV show a steady hit for six seasons.

Patrick J Adams, Gabriel Macht, Meghan Markle, Sarah Rafferty and Rick Hoffman bring back the old clashes and complications, with more young associates, new storylines and fresh challenges for the protagonists. Keep an eye out for the female camaraderie, and all the instances of women having each other’s backs, because this month’s other big release will have none of it. Game of Thrones returns to the small screen the week after, bringing with it the much-awaited clash of queens.

While Suits season 7 will première on Comedy Central in India on July 14, following the US release, Game of Thrones season 7 will make its début on Hotstar on July 17, before being aired on Star World Première on July 18.

The screening of the Suits season première, which had The Brew Room chock-a-block with followers, saw people agush with plot theories, games and nerd-level know-how about the show. Five lucky contest winners had quizzed their way into the screening. At least three of them — Vijayalakshmi MM, Ravindar RP and Ruthwick GJ — didn’t think keeping mum about the details would be a problem. Spoilers, after all, lose their leverage once spoilt. Yet, even that ardent gathering saw repeated mentions of Game of Thrones .

For fans, it looks like a complete win-win situation. With the battles of the courtroom being fought on Fridays and those in Westeros being fought on Mondays, there’s plenty of fandom fodder to go around.

The earlier copy said the screening was held in 4 cities. The screening was held by Comedy Central across 6 cities, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata and Pune.
