Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat will write the series, and Sue Vertues Hartswood Films will produce it. While Benedict Cumberbatch was propelled to international stardom for his portrayal of Holmes, the cast for Dracula is yet to be finalised. It is not yet clear whether Dracula will have a modern-day British setting.
The Gothic horror story was adapted for television in 2013 by Carnival, the producers of Downton Abbey . But it ran for just one season.
