Actor Rajinikanth will team up with director Karthik Subbaraj in his next film, the film's production house, Sun Pictures, announced the news on Friday on Twitter. The film has not been titled yet.

"Really can't express my happiness in words... My most treasured dream come true moment... Thanks a lot Thalaivaaaaa...," tweeted Karthik.

Karthik, who debuted with the sleeper hit Pizza , is gearing for the release of his fourth film, Mercury . The director was scheduled to work with Rajinikanth's son-in-law, actor Dhanush, and had similarly announced the launch of the film on Twitter in April 2016. Shooting was planned for September of the same year, but media reports say that the film "is still waiting to be launched".

Rajinikanth already has two films in his kitty. Director Pa. Ranjith's Kaala is scheduled for release on April 27, while the release of his highly anticipated 2.0 with director Shankar has been postponed.

2.0 is being delayed because of the complicated nature of visual effects, according to an earlier report by The Hindu . The report added that the film would take a few more months to be completed.

Currently, the veteran actor also has his hands full with the expected launch of his political party . Rajinikanth has already launched the Rajini Makkal Mandram as a precursor to his party, according to an earlier report. Raju Mahalingam, former creative head of Lyca Productions - the production house that is also financing 2.0 - has been appointed as the forum's secretary.
