Composer Dhibu Ninan Thomas, who debuted with the just-released Maragatha Naanayam , is getting a lot of appreciation from all quarters. “The climax was the ultimate test. It had to be high on emotion, and at the same time funny too.” Dhibu says that his penchant for the piano started during his childhood days, and he learnt Carnatic music vocals during the formative years. “Things changed when I began to work as an independent musician. When I got a call from producer Dilli Babu and director Saravanan, I could sense the flavour they were looking for.”

Dhibu saw the song ‘Karuppaadu’ as the pick of his five. “The funk music number merited a high pitch and that was effectively brought out by Arunraja,” he says, while heaping praise on the other singers in the album.

Armed with degrees from the renowned School of Audio Engineering in Australia and a crash course in sound engineering in New Zealand, Dhibu is all for bringing the repertoire in the desi flavour. “Melody numbers stay with you for long. But then, as a composer, I am aware of catering to the needs of the scenario. My desire is to strike a heady balance.”
