Bollywood is waiting to see how things will pan out for one of its biggest stars, and it all boils down to money.

“Depending on the number of releases in a year, anywhere between ₹400-₹500 crore would be riding on a big star like him,” said Amul Vikas Mohan, editor of Super Cinema, a film trade publication.

‘Top star’

“He is the top star by quite a margin,” said Shailesh Kapoor, founder and CEO of Ormax Media, a Mumbai-based media consulting firm. Mr. Kapoor points out that when actor Sanjay Dutt was sentenced in another case, unlike Khan, he was “past his prime, doing only odd lead roles”.

According to Mr. Kapoor, “Every film of Salman Khan has done business of ₹250-300 crore for the last eight years. Even Jai Ho and Tubelight , which did not do too well, raked in ₹100 crore each.”

The actor is currently working on the nearly completed Race 3 , due for an Eid release on June 15. His forthcoming projects include a new season of the TV show Dus ka dum , and a film called Bharat , to be directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. The coming days will decide the actor’s fate and that of his future projects.
