It’s going to be a film loosely based on the life of forest brigand Veerappan directed by well-known film-maker Ram Gopal Verma. What makes it very special is the fact that it is the director’s first film in Kannada and Shivarajkumar, whose father and matinee idol Dr. Rajkumar was abducted by the sandalwood smuggler, is going be in the lead.

“Killing Veerappan” is expected to go on the sets on Friday, which happens to be the birthday of Dr. Rajkumar.

The late actor was kidnapped by Veerappan and kept as hostage for 108 days. Shivarjkumar is essaying the role of a police officer who leads the operation which results in elimination of Veerappan. It is learnt that Ram Gopal Verma is planning this as a multilingual film.

In a release, Mr. Verma said: “I have been immensely interested to do a film on Veerappan for years and I finally got the most perfect script, which I think will be the greatest portrayal of the phenomenon of Veerappan.”

He said that the “true story” of Veerappan he gathered from sources was highly exciting. “The biggest hero for me is the man who killed the biggest villain Veerappan. So this is the actual untold and unknown true story of the man who killed Veerappan,” Ramgopal Verma claimed.
