The makers of “Great Grand Masti” today said that the copy of their film that got leaked online was the same that was submitted to the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT).

Riteish Deshmukh-Aftab Shivdasani-Vivek Oberoi-starrer adult comedy “Great Grand Masti” was supposed to release on July 22, but it was out in cinema houses on July 15 as it was leaked online.

The team of “Masti” franchise, who continued promoting the film, were, however, tight-lipped about the leak. However, today the makers and the actors addressed a press conference, where they spoke regarding the leak and piracy of the movie.

“The copy that has been leaked online is the same copy that was submitted to the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT). This is an unprecedented leakage. After cyber cell investigation, it was found out that the sealed copy was sent to FCAT, then the seal was tampered and mixed with other films,” Hitesh Jain, the legal aid of Balaji Motion Pictures, which has produced the film, said.

Shahid Kapoor starrer “Udta Punjab” got leaked two days before its release and “Great Grand Masti” was out online. Both the films are produced by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures.

“It’s shocking. It’s really unfortunate that this has happened again (referring to the leak) and that we are targeted again. There are people who have wasted the hard work of the team of the film. I have learnt that in one day six lakh download happens,” Ekta said.

Ekta reveals that half of her staff had seen the film much before its official release. “The investigations are on and we are hopeful perpetrators will be booked soon in both the cases (referring to “Udta Punjab” and “Great Grand Masti” leak). We can’t blame anyone. Reports will come out. We just appeal to authorities to take concrete action. We are taking measures for our upcoming films,” she added.

Meanwhile, actor Shiney Ahuja has sent a legal notice to Balaji Motion Pictures and “Great Grand Masti” director Indra Kumar as a character in the film — depicted as a maid — is named Shiney.

The lawyers of Shiney, who was accused of rape by his domestic help back in 2009, have sent the legal notice to the film’s team asking that all references to Shiney be removed from the film, and a written apology be extended to him.

“We feel the issue of piracy is more important and that needs to be addressed first,” Hitesh Jain when asked about the notice.
