Roopa Ganguly on BJP’s second list in West Bengal

The actor-turned-politician will contest from the Howrah Uttar constituency

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its second list of candidates comprising of 194 seats for the Assembly polls. The list was announced from the party headquarters in New Delhi. While actor-turned-politician Roopa Ganguly will contest from the Howrah Uttar constituency, party’s national secretary and former State president Rahul Sinha will contest from the Jorasanko seat. Earlier, the BJP released a list of 52 candidates.

EC action

The Superintendents of Police (SP) of four districts and a District Magistrate in West Bengal have been transferred after a full b ench of the Election Commission visited the State and expressed displeasure at the functioning of the officers. The SPs of Malda, Bardhaman, South Dinajpur and Nadia have been transferred along with the District Magistrate of Hooghly district.

The Election Commission (EC) has also issued show cause notices to Trinamool Congress’ (TMC) Birbhum district president and local strongman Anubrata Mondal and party candidate from Bhangar Assembly seat Abdur Rezzak Molla. Notices were issued to Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI[M]) MP Md. Salim for violation of the model code of conduct.
