Despite a huge victory for both the former Ministers of DMK, disappointment was lit large on the faces of K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, and Thangam Thennarasu, as the party failed to romp home a simple majority in the State Assembly.
The small crowd of partymen that was seen around the victorious candidates were not so jubilant. There was a marked silence among them. Except for wishing the leaders, the cadre did not rejoice the victory.
"We could have reconciled to the fate, had it been (a loss) with wider margin. But, it is a very narrow slip. Another 10 to 15 seats, the equation would have different," Mr. Thennarasu said.
Similarly, it is not a huge victory for the ruling party for its men to rejoice. "We now have a stronger opposition in us," he said.
Recalling AIADMK general secretary and Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa's statement that she could not see any enemy for the party in the farthest spot of sight, Mr. Thennarasu said, "We are right under your nose," he said.
On the both Tiruchuli and Aruppukottai recording higher turnout on polling day, Mr. Ramachandran said that people had reposed more confidence on them being senior leaders in the region.
Mr. Thennarasu attributed it to the evident anti-incumbency wave. "People will realise (their mistake) very shortly," he said.
