DMK leader M.K. Stalin on Tuesday asserted that no fresh invitation has been extended by party chief >M. Karunanidhi to actor Vijayakant’s DMDK for the forthcoming Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu.

Mr. Vijaykant, the actor-turned-politician, had recently announced his >party’s decision to fight the May 16, 2016 Tamil Nadu Assembly election alone.

Referring to Monday’s >remarks by Mr. Karunanidhi to reporters in this regard, Mr. Stalin said the party chief had only referred to the earlier invitation extended to the DMDK and that it had “not been understood properly”.

“Kalaignar (Mr. Karunanidhi) had earlier already extended an invitation to DMDK which is the fact. To accept that invitation or not is DMDK’s right... the invitation stays. But it has been reported as if there is a new invitation,” Mr. Stalin told reporters in Chennai.

“Even then, no talks were held, now also no talks are being held (with the DMDK). That is the truth,” Mr. Stalin said.

Mr. Karunanidhi had on Monday indicated that talks were on with the DMDK and that he had not lost hope that Mr. Vijaykant would join hands with the DMK for the elections.

“Happening,” he had told reporters when asked if talks were on with the DMDK.

“I have not lost my confidence (that the DMDK would join the DMK-led front),” said Mr. Karunanidhi, whose party was among those which have wooed Mr. Vijayakant for an alliance.
