Narendra Modi received a rapturous welcome in Varanasi as he visited his constituency in a show of gratitude on Saturday, a day after the BJPs resounding victory in the Lok Sabha elections.

Mr. Modi participated in a grand Ganga aarti at the famed Dashashwamedh Ghat.

“I bow before the people of Varanasi for having so much faith in me,” Mr. Modi said in his thanksgiving speech from a makeshift stage at the ghat.

Amid tight security arrangements, Mr. Modi walked down to the Ghat, followed by BJP president Rajnath Singh and his close aide Amit Shah, after performing puja at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple here.
