Union Minister M.M. Pallam Raju’s visit to the Government General Hospital here on Tuesday sparked a controversy, as the campaign for the general elections was over by Monday evening.

The Congress leader, who is contesting the Kakinada Lok Sabha seat, visited the GGH in the morning along with his followers.

Interacts with patients

He spent about half an hour in the hospital and interacted with the patients and their family members .

The TDP, BJP and the YSR Congress demanded that the Election Commission take action against Mr. Pallam Raju for violating the election guidelines.

District Collector and election officer Neetu Prasad said she would look into the issue.

‘Personal visit’

When contacted, Mr. Raju said Satyavathi, a domestic help in his house, was undergoing treatment at the GGH and he visited the hosp-ital to comfort her.

“It is purely a personal visit and nothing to do with the election campaign.”
