The Election Commission finalised the voter turnout at Chalakudy Parliamentary constituency in the 16th Lok Sabha elections held on Thursday at 76.94 per cent.
This was 3.31 per cent more than the polling registered during the polls held in 2009 when 73.63 per cent turned up in polling booths.
All seven Assembly constituencies in Chalakudy recorded voting in excess of 70 per cent. Kunnathunadu topped the chart with 81.48 per cent while Chalakudy was at the bottom with 73.53 per cent. Kaipamangalam Assembly constituency registered 74.33 per cent voter turnout, Kodungalloor 73.79 per cent, Perumbavur 77.96 per cent, Angamaly 78.85 per cent and Aluva 78.41 per cent.
All Assembly constituencies in Chalakudy registered an increase in excess of two per cent in voter turnout compared to the 2009 elections. The rise was five per cent in Kodungalloor were only 68 per cent had cast votes five years ago. Chalakudy witnessed a voter turnout of 70.07 per cent, Angamaly 75.07 per cent, and in Aluva 75.66 per cent voters had turned out in 2009.
The voter turnout in Kaipamangalam, Perumbavur and Kunnathunadu Assembly constituencies in the previous election was 72.48 per cent, 75.06 per cent, and 79.78 per cent respectively.
