Manmohan to vote in Guwahati

April 24, 2014 12:04 am | Updated May 21, 2016 01:09 pm IST - GUWAHATI:

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife, Gursharan Kaur, will vote here on Thursday, when six Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam, with 94.21 lakh voters, go to the polls in the third and final phase.

Dr. Singh and his wife will vote at the booth in the Government Higher Secondary School, Dispur, in the Guwahati constituency.

This will be the second time that Dr. Singh is voting in Assam, which he calls his “adopted home State.” The first time was in 2009. The Prime Minister, who has been representing Assam in the Rajya Sabha since 1991, has a rented house here, close to the polling station. Security arrangements have been made at the polling station. Of the six constituencies, Guwahati has the highest number of candidates and voters — 18 and 19.21 lakh.
