75 per cent voting in Assam

A total of 75 per cent votes were cast for the three Lok Sabha seats in Assam where polling is on in the second phase on Saturday.

Election office sources said polling was peaceful and Karimganj(SC) recorded 55 per cent polling, Silchar 65 per cent and Autonomous District(ST) comprising Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao district 45 per cent, till 3pm.

EVM malfunctioning was reported in Autonomous District and Karimganj constituencies. The machines were later replaced and voting continued uninterrupted, the sources said.

Voters, including women and youth, formed long queues before the 3698 polling booths of the three constituencies an hour before polling began at 7am.

A total 29,26,762, including 15,26,082 women and 86 others will cast their votes during the day.
