UDF wins 12 out of 16 seats in Malappuram district

The ruling UDF has won 12 out of 16 seats in the Malappuram district. LDF made gains in the district by retaining Ponnani and Tavanur, and wresting Nilambur and Tanur from the UDF.

Tanur and Nilambur two major upsets in the district. LDF independent candidate P.V. Anvar toppled Congress veteran Aryadan Mohammed's son Aryadan Shoukath by 11,504 votes in Nilambur.

Similarly, another LDF independent V. Abdurahiman upsetted Muslim League's sitting MLA Abdurahman Randathani by 4,918 votes in Tanur.

For the first time, LDF wrested Tanur from the Muslim League. LDF victories in Ponnani and Tavanur have been shining. LDF sitting MLA P. Sreeramakrishnan defeated P.T. Ajaymohan in Ponnani by 15,640 votes. LDF sitting MLA K.T. Jaleel routed Congress's Ifthiqaruddeen in Tavanur by 17,064 votes.

UDF won the following seats:

Kondotty, Eranad, Wandoor, Perinthamanna, Manjeri, Mankada, Malappuram, Vengara, Vallikunnu, Tirurangadi, Tirur, and Kottakkal.
