Though most MLAs have held on to their posts, the swing in the number of votes they won by has been drastic in some cases. While some have doubled their margin of victory, others have lost a considerable number of votes compared to the last elections.

Dinesh Gundu Rao, Congress MLA from Gandhi Nagar, won by 10,070 votes this time, against 22,607 last time.

B. Shivanna of the Congress, who retained Anekal by a margin of 8,627, had a victory margin of 40,182 last time. Even former home minister Ramalinga Reddy, who has managed victories in seven elections, has lost over half the margin he last won with.

Among those who saw a big fall in margin is Byatarayanapura MLA Krishna Byre Gowda. The Congress MLA, who had won by a margin of 32,400 votes in 2013, managed a lead of only 5,671 votes this time.

M. Krishnappa (Congress) from Vijayanagar won only by 2,775 votes this time compared to his last victory margin of 32,642.

The big gainers were Mahadevapura candidate Aravind Limbavali of the BJP, who won by 17,784 votes, compared to the 6,149 margin in the last election.

R. Ashok (BJP - Padmanabhanagar)

K. Gopalaiah of the JD(S) won by a massive margin of 41,100 votes in Mahalakshmi Layout, much higher than the 15,370 votes last time.

Yelahanka candidate S.R. Vishwanath of the BJP increased his victory margin by a large number of votes (42,503 against 18,397 in 2013).

Bommanahalli MLA M. Sathish Reddy of the BJP increased his margin of victory (47,162 compared to 25,852 in 2013).

The others who won by bigger margins than their last election outing were K.J. George (Congress - Sarvagnanagar), and C.N. Ashwathnarayana (BJP - Malleswaram).
