The ratings of 27 MLAs of the city, released by Bangalore Political Action Committee (B.PAC) on Friday, in which Sarvagna Nagar MLA K.J. George emerged as the topper, was criticised by a section of citizens and resident welfare associations on Saturday.
The Langford Civic Action Group wrote on Twitter: “It seems strange and misleading to rate MLAs without factoring the ground realities in constituencies. What about law and order, responsiveness of the police, who controls this and where does the buck stop? And why does B.PAC not engage with communities?”
Citizens also expressed their disagreement with the ratings. “How audacious of the @BPACofficial to tell us, the residents of #Bengaluru , what they think of our MLAs. Like we don't know. Not just that, but to rate the worst as the best! What sort of a cruel joke is this,” said one tweet, while another said the BPAC had ‘lost credibility’ due to the ‘gradings’.
Among the others who scored well in the ratings were Byatarayanapura MLA Krishna Byre Gowda and Shantinagar MLA N.A. Haris.
To this, ‘I Change Hemmigepura’ said: “We feel the integrity of an MLA should have been considered as one of the factors.”
When one citizen asked how a particular MLA had not scored well despite doing good work, B.PAC said, “He is a good committed person. But data on the questions asked and criminal case led to lower marks. But as we have said, this rating is no reflection on the integrity of an MLA.”
