The BJP has promised to plant over one crore plants — a tree for every citizen in the city — to bring back the tree-to-person ratio to at least 1:1 and conduct a tree census, in its Bengaluru-specific manifesto released on Tuesday by Union Minister and MP H.N. Ananth Kumar, who dubbed the Congress regime in the State as 3G — ‘Goonda, Gundi (pothole) and Garbage’.
The party promises to develop 5,000-km of scientifically designed footpaths, not to discriminate in tariffs and charges for water, power and solid waste management between domestic households and apartments, and strict implementation of zoning regulations.
Some of these issues have been championed by resident welfare associations (RWAs).
BJP has promised to bring back citizen control over their neighbourhood through a slew of measures. The manifesto proposes to amend the constitution of ward committees so that they have a minimum 50% representatives from RWAs. The jurisdictions of all service utilities will be redrawn according to ward boundaries.
A new digital platform — bengaluru.gov.in — will be launched as a one-stop forum for all citizen-government interactions of not just BBMP, but all other parastatals.
The BJP has also promised to bring out new legislation for Bengaluru and launch public consultation afresh for RMP – 2031.
Also promised are a Bengaluru Lake Conservation and Development Authority (BLCDA) for rejuvenation and protection of the city's lakes, expansion of metro connectivity to satellite towns and a suburban rail network for the city, which was part of the State manifesto too.
