The contest in Himachal Pradesh is limited largely to the ruling Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party, even though the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has attempted to build on its rare north Indian success in the Shimla mayoral elections of 2012 by focusing on a few constituencies.
