The victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Gujarat manifests a strong connect between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of Gujarat, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Monday.

“The victory shows the strength of the connect between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of Gujarat,” Mr. Parrikar said at a specially convened press conference at the State BJP headquarters in Panaji on Monday.

He called the party’s victory in Gujarat an “excellent performance.” However, in reply to a persistent question, he conceded that the BJP did face a minor setback in Gujarat.

To a question whether Gujarat victory was an indicator of the popular mood ahead of the 2019 general elections, he replied, “It is confirmation of next government at the Centre. We will also ensure that the BJP wins handsomely in Karnataka.”
