The Bhartiya Janata Party had handpicked people for the Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana based mostly on the candidates’ track record. Senior Rajasthan leader Om Mathur was made election-in-charge of Maharashtra, while in Haryana Madhya Pradesh Minister Kailash Vijayvargay descended with his team of workers. Both these leaders have the confidence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party President Amit Shah and are expected to be rewarded with important positions.

Amongst others who were part of the A-team in Maharashtra were UP organising secretary Sunil Bansal, Maharashtra-in-charge Rajiv Pratap Rudi, national secretary Bhupinder Yadav, general secretary Vinay Sahastrabude and Union Ministers Prakash Javadekar, Piyush Goyal and Dharmendra Pradhan. Besides them, Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj, Ananth Kumar,Smriti Irani and Radha Mohan Singh were active in both the States.

In Haryana, Mr. Vijayvargay was successful in garnering the support of several religious bodies who pledged their support to the BJP. Election-in-charge Anil Kumar Jain and State-in-charge Jagdish Mukhi were hands on in the State and hope to be recognised in the next reshuffle in the party and the government. Mr. Mukhi has been a contender for the Chief Minister’s chair in Delhi and with the BJP getting a majority in Haryana eh will hopw to remain in the reckoning.
