Two siblings from the city, aged 12 and 10, may be the youngest computer programmers in the country.
Shravan, studying in class VIII, and Sanjay in class VI, developed four computer applications. The applications, available at Apple Application Store, have been downloaded by more than ten thousand users from 20 countries. ‘Catch Me Cop’, a gaming application was the first developed in January.
Shravan tells us that their father Kumaran, an IT expert, bought them a desktop and tampering with it turned them into programmers.
“‘Daddy, you are always glued to the system, can we chip in as well?’ they used to ask. That is perhaps how they began to develop an interest in computers from an early age,” said Jyothilakshmi Kumaran, mother of the two.
Apart from the gaming application, the boys have developed Alphabet Board, a learning application, Prayer Planet and Colour Palette, which enables kids to learn colours.
They say their applications have received five-star rating. “It was an ecstatic moment when Apple accepted our application,” says Shravan. He adds that he, along with his brother, plans to develop something that will be productive for school children.
“We plan to develop lifestyle applications for senior citizens, and environmental applications that give data about pollution levels,” said Sanjay. They intend to contribute a portion of their income to the downtrodden, in future.
