The Japanese language is considered one of the most beneficial languages to learn to further one’s career and find job opportunities across India and Japan. This is due to the increasing political ties between the two countries. Despite the perceived difficulty level, this language is attracting a lot of students due to the growing demand for multilingual employees and professionals.
According to Selyucus Markus, Director, Operations, Asahi Japanese Language School, the language is not that difficult to grasp as it has grammatical rules similar to Hindi. He admits that the students might find it difficult to grasp ‘Kanji’, pictorial representations, which are Chinese characters included in Japanese.

He adds, “A person can learn to read and speak in Japanese within three months of taking up the beginner’s level programme (N-5). However, in order to get a good job opportunity in India or Japan, a student needs to complete the N-3 level, which takes around nine months.”
“Due to the declining population in Japan, there are endless job opportunities available in clerical and professional fields. Japanese companies looking to enter the Indian market have also increased the demand for Japanese proficiency,” he explains.
Asahi is partnered with Tokyo’s premier Japanese language institutes, so students have the option of exploring part-time work opportunities while studying in Tokyo. Asahi has tied up with one of the best recruitment firms in Japan, which helps students get connected to the right people and companies which provide them with various career options.
“Asahi helps students prepare for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), through which they can seek internships and placements in both India and Japan. It is considered a reliable means of evaluating and certifying Japanese proficiency,” says Markus.
Reasonable fee structure and good returns continue to increase the number of students opting for Japanese language classes. Students get a chance to study in Ichikawa Nihongo Gakuin, Japan, which has a limited number of seats for those who excel in JLPT, and provides them with part-time job opportunities.
