4 colleges lose 600 MBBS seats

Two colleges get permission to increase its intake

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has debarred Annaii Medical College, Pennalur, Kancheepuram from admitting students for academic years 2017-18 and 2018-19.

Similarly, Madha Medical College and Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Institute of Medical Sciences have been denied permission to admit students in the current academic year and in 2018-19. The colleges used to admit 150 students each.

Karpagam Faculty of Medical Sciences and Research, Coimbatore, has been denied permission to admit students this year. It used to admit 150 students a year.

In all, the four colleges have lost close to 600 MBBS seats.

Nod for higher intake

The Ministry has granted permission to Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital, under Bharath University, to increase its intake from 150 seats to 250 seats for the current academic year.

The Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, under Pondicherry University, has been permitted to admit 150 students this year.

The government medical college will have to surrender 15% of its seats to the all India quota.

The Ministry has granted permission to Annapoorna Medical College and Hospital in Salem to admit 150 students for the current academic year.
