The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination for students who wish to be recruited to various posts in ministries, departments and organisations of the Government of India. SSC CGL posts rank among one of the most coveted profiles in the country. The preliminary examination, which is divided into four levels for various posts, will be held in August.

As graduates from almost every field appear for this exam, the level of competition is usually high. Due to several changes in the pattern last year, the difficulty level of the exam has increased. This year, the Tier-1 exam will be held between August 1 and 20.

With less than a month left, you must be worried about last-minute preparations.“Students should work hard to make their basics strong, specially for the quantitative aptitude section. Practice questions from a topic several times so that new pattern changes do not surprise you during the exam and you do not end up wasting time,” says Neha Goyal, Community Manager, GradeUp.

Here are some points that should be kept in mind while preparing for the exam.

Mock tests: Solving full-length exam papers will help you access your weaknesses and strengths. Learn from your mistakes, focus on improving them and take a test again. You should try to take at least 15-20 mock tests before appearing for the exam. Solving quizzes available online is also a good option.

Time management: Always set a time target. SSC exam gives you a time limit of 60 minutes during which you have to try to attempt as many questions as you can. Procrastinating might lead to your doom.

Make a timetable: It is essential to sketch a proper timetable to optimise your preparation. This will also help you to keep away from being distracted by social media.

Documents: To avoid last-minute rush, keep all the required documents ready in advance.

While charting your timetable, make sure you reserve some time for yourself. A relaxed mind is what you will need the most.

Do not study for long stretches; study with regular breaks. Use music or exercise to keep your mind and body relaxed.
