Talent search: The RMO is the first round to spot the exceptionally talented youngsters in the field of mathematics
The Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) to be held on November 29 will provide budding mathematicians here a platform to match their skills with the best brains across the country. Organised by the National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM), the annual Mathematical Olympiad seems to be growing in popularity every year.
The RMO is the first round in this exciting search for the exceptionally talented youngsters in the field of mathematics. A. Vijayakumar, regional co-ordinator of the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) and faculty of the Department of Mathematics at Cochin University of Science and Technology, said that NBHM has been organising Mathematical Olympiads in the country since 1988. He said that the objective of the event is to spot talented students who have the capacity for original and critical thinking and encourage them to choose a career in mathematics.
The 10 centres for the RMO in the State include Arya Central School (Thiruvananthapuram), Trinity Lyceum (Kollam), CMS College (Kottayam), GHSS (Kottarakkara), Chinmaya Vidyapeedom (Ernakulam), St. Thomas College HSS (Thrissur), St. Josephs College (Irinjalakkuda), Government Victoria College (Palakkad), St. Josephs College, Devagiri (Kozhikode) and Chinmaya Vidyalaya (Kannur). The event is being coordinated by the Department of Mathematics at Cochin University of Science and Technology.
