Funds crunch is forcing Andhra University to look for more avenues and the old proposal to make use of vast pieces of land has come back to the fore. This time a top administrator is reportedly planning to lease out a 4,000 square yards piece of land abutting the Siripuram junction to a north Andhra-based consortium.

This administrator has reportedly gathered some thousands of signatures from the campus to support Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy as Chief Minister and since the present power equations appear to continue for a few more years or till the next elections, the official is trying to balance his earlier act and please the present administration. This rumour is making rounds in the campus.

Research scholar’s case

She earlier complained to the Vice-Chancellor B. Satyanarayana and Registrar P.V.G.D. Prasada Reddy.

The problem started with the administration accommodating M. Pharm. students in the Seetha Mahal hostel, meant for lady research scholars. The move immediately drew protest from the research scholars as they felt that the hostel would become congested and they would be disturbed. The research scholar who has been suspended is more vocal and the reason is said to be her health condition. She needs quite environment but is being disturbed by the M. Pharm. students who moved into the hostel recently. She also approached the civil rights organisations and held a press conference. At an inquiry conducted by the women’s grievance cell of AU, she was reportedly in an excited state and uncooperative. This had resulted in the report going against her. The Police are yet to start investigation into the complaint made by her.

The scholar’s research director has not been involved in the inquiry or he has not been asked about her, before taking a decision. It is also felt that the research scholars and M. Pharm. students should have been accommodated in different floors, for the latter could have been sent to the engineering college hostel.

The State Government has reportedly sought a confidential report from the AU administration on the episode. To a query from the Government as to why M.Pharm. students were accommodated in research scholars’ hostel, the AU administration has reportedly replied that they are considered as research scholars as they need not appear for the pre-Ph.D. examination.
