JMET-2010
The next Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET- 2010) will be held on December 13 across the country for admission to the two-year fulltime PG programme in management including MBA conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) at Madras (Department of Management Studies); Bombay (Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management); Delhi (Department of Management Studies); Kanpur (Department of Industrial Management Engineering); Kharagpur (Vinod Gupta School of Management) and Roorkee (Department of Management Studies). In South India, the test centres will include Bangalore, Hubli, Surathkal, Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram, Coimbatore, Tiruchirapalli, Chennai, Vijayawada, Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.
The test will covers 120 objective-type questions from verbal communication, logical reasoning, quantitative ability and data interpretation. There will be negative marking for wrong answers.

Apply online through the website before October 9. Application fee is Rs.750, and it has to be remitted through a challan for JMET 2010 from any branch of SBI.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) Bangalore will organise JMET 2010 and the admit card will be issued by October 30 to the eligible applicants.
Green job
Aberrations in climate pattern in the recent years have ensured that in addition to the government, even common people and companies have felt the need for environment-friendly practices. In the wake of the same, a ‘Green Jobs India Fair’ is being organised by The Climate Project India and Sierra Club’s Green Livelihoods Centre, at the India Habitat Centre in Delhi from Sept. 24 to 26.
The fair will feature jobs that focus on sustainability and contribute to preserving or restoring environmental quality. Opportunities in diverse fields such as finance, architecture, consultancy, management and engineering are on offer at the event that is expected to witness participation from nearly 20 companies and 10 corporate houses. Employers including UNDP, WWF, SELCO, Godrej Properties and SEWA are looking for “green consciousness,” in addition to relevant qualifications, in the prospective employees.
The fair will also feature theatre performances and talks by successful green entrepreneurs. No prior registration is required. Job seekers are expected to carry a copy of their resume.
ISB contest
The Indian School of Business (ISB) has launched ‘ISB Idiya,’ an initiative that invites ideas for innovative social ventures from working professionals in India. The competition is not open to students who are pursuing any full time programme. The competition is being led by students of the Net Impact, a social responsibility club at ISB.
Ajit Rangnekar, Dean, ISB, said, “We would like to encourage social entrepreneurship amongst youth in India through ISB Idiya. We hope that new-age business models will change the social sector scenario in India. This initiative will support aspiring entrepreneurs from idea generation to execution through mentorship and entrepreneurial training.” The event was launched by Vijay Mahajan, chairman and founder of Basix.
Applications can be sent before October, 25. The camp for winners will take place from December 5 to 11.
Paramedical courses
The Directorate of Medical Education, Thiruvananthapuram, has invited applications for admission to the various paramedical courses conducted at the Government medical colleges, Priyadarshini Paramedical Institute for SC/ST and the recognised self-financing institutes in Kerala.
Application forms will be distributed from all the Government medical and dental colleges for Rs.160. Candidates who would prefer to order by post should send money order for Rs.190 to the Prinicipal of any of the Government medical colleges at Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kottayam and Alappuzha.
Courses: Diploma in medical laboratory technology (DMLT); radiological technology (DRT); ophthalmic assistance (DOA); dental mechanics (DMC); dental hygienist; operation theatre technology (DOTT); cardiovascular technician; neuro technology (DNT); and dialysis technology (DDT). Duration of all the above courses is two years.
Applications should be sent to the Director of Medical Education, Medical College P.O, Thiruvananthapuram-695011 on or before October 7. Fee structure: Tuition fee Rs.3,600, stationary fee Rs.250, registration fee Rs.200 (first-year only), caution deposit-Rs.750.
D. Pharm.
The Director of Medical Education, Thiruvananthapuram, has invited application for admission to the two-year D. Pharm. courses conducted by the Government medical colleges and recognised private pharmacy colleges in Kerala. Seats available in the Government medical colleges are: Thiruvananthapuram (20), Aplapuzha (40), Kottayam (30), Kozhikode (50) and Priyadarshini Institute of Paramedical Sciences, Thiruvananthapuram (for SC/ST candidates only, 40). In the private sector, 17 recognised colleges offer this course and a total of 900 seats are available.
In private pharmacy colleges, 50 per cent seats will be on merit and they will be filled up according to the rank list prepared by the Director of Medical Education on the basis of marks obtained for physics and chemistry in the qualifying examination. The remaining 50 per cent management seats will be filled up by the management concerned. Tuition fee for government colleges is Rs.3,600 while private self-financing colleges will charge Rs.18,600.

NPTI
The National Power Training Institute, Neyveli-607803, has invited applications for admission to its post-diploma in thermal power plant engineering. Three-year diploma holders in mechanical or electrical or instrumental engineering with 60 per cent marks are eligible to apply. For application forms, send a requisition letter along with a demand draft for Rs.700 drawn in favour of NPTI Neyveli. Last date: September 24.
TISS programmes
The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, has invited applications for a test to be held on December 13 for admission to postgraduate programmes including social work, development studies, counselling, human resources management and labour relations, public health, social epidemiology, health administration, hospital administration, disaster management, media and cultural studies, and women’s studies. XAT
XLRI Jamshedpur will conduct Xavier Admission Test on January 3. The last date for registration for XAT and admission to XLRI for postgraduate diploma in business management, personnel management and industrial relations, and fellow programmes in management is November 30.
