EXAMINATION: Students participating in the written test conducted as part of the recruitment drive at K.L.N. College of Engineering at Pottapalayam.
A recruitment drive was held at K.L.N. College of Engineering at Pottapalayam recently by Bangalore-based APNA Technologies and Solutions.
As many as 600 students from K.L.N. College of Engineering, K.L.N. College of Information Technology, Raja College of Engineering, Kamaraj College of Engineering and Pannai College of Engineering attended the test. After the pre-placement talk, a writ
ten test was conducted. The short listed students would attend the interview in Bangalore.
The finally recruited candidates would get a job at an annual salary of Rs.2 lakh. The selected students would undergo training for a year.
G. Sridhar, chief application consultant, insisted that students should have a quick grasp of fundamentals besides developing an attitude of innovative application.
In the placement drive organised by a Chennai-based IT Major CITI Group Information Technology Operation Solutions, around 600 students from P.S.N.A. College of Engineering and Technology, Dindigul, K.L.N. College of Engineering and K.L.N. College of Information Technology participated.
Selection has been done through the screening process of written test, group discussion, technical interview and HR interview. In all, 49 students have been selected for the placement of Software Engineer with an annual package of Rs. 3.1 lakh.
Samir Godgil, vice-president, Human Resources of CITI Group, issued the offer letters to the selected students. The selected students would attend Orientation Training for six months either in Chennai, Bangalore or Hyderabad. S.S. Manian, placement officer, welcomed the gathering. G. Gokulkumar, talent development officer, proposed a vote of thanks.
The Association of Computer Science and Engineering of Velammal College of Engineering and Technology, Viraganoor, organised a special lecture on ‘Alternative Technology for the students – Open Source’ recently.
J. S. Sukumar, general manager, Winways Systems Pvt. Ltd, Madurai, delivered the lecture. He motivated the students by referring to the significant features of the open source besides comparing the open source and proprietary software.
He mentioned some of the advantages of open source such as security, reliability, cost of software and virus free. He said open source is a good platform for students to exhibit their creativity. He discussed the usage percentage of open source in India. He advised students to explore research openings in Linux.
The Electronics and Communication Engineering Association and the College Library conducted a book review competition to celebrate the birth anniversary of Father of Indian Library Science Dr. S.R. Ranganathan that fell on August 9. Around 30 students from all engineering braches actively participated.
S. Srividhya, II B.E. (EEE) bagged the coveted Dr. S.R. Ranganathan Memorial Trophy, while S. Sarath Ramakrishnan and A. Pandiarajan of II B.E. (ECE) won the second and third prizes respectively.
N. Suresh Kumar, head, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, G. Veera Senthil Kumar, staff advisor of ECE Association and S. Gopalakrishnan, librarian, made all the arrangements.
The inauguration of ISTE-Staff Chapter was held recently. N. Krishnamoorthy, President, Dealership Business, TVS and Sons, Madurai, chief guest, asked the students to become respectable contributors to the society by participating more in the avenues like ISTE. Students should develop specific work-related skills and interpersonal skills.
Today the demand for manufacturing industries has been increased, where India has 5 percentage of global market share in exports, he pointed out. SM. Kannan, principal, presided. G. Manikandan, Secretary – ISTE Staff Chapter, and A. Amutha, Faculty Advisor – ISTE Student Chapter spoke.
Cygmax Institute of Management Studies Madurai, conducted its ‘Leadership in Management’ lecture series for the academic year 2008-2009, with an inaugural lecture by R. Dharmar, former president of Madura Coats and Founder Trustee of Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, Madurai.
He gave an inspiring speech on the ‘Role of Young Managers in the World of Business- Lessons for Success’.
Mr. Dharmar emphasized the concept of ‘KASH,’ an acronym for Knowledge, Attitude, Skills and Habits among MBA students. He stressed the importance of cultivating good habits besides highlighting the importance of acquiring relevant knowledge. He urged the students to develop enthusiasm and commitment to reach out to their goals.
Students welcomed the gathering. Mr. Sivakumar, principal-in-charge and Veera Balaji faculty member and soft skills trainer of CIMS proposed a vote of thanks.
Department of Library of NMSS Vellaichamy Nadar College, Nagamalai, organised a seminar on ‘Tamilil Enaiyathala Valarchi’ on college campus.
M. Elangovan, professor, Bharathidasan Government Women’s College, Puducherry, gave a speech on ‘Tamilil Enaiyathala Valarchi’ and explained the definition, types of web sites and use of web sites in Tamil and narrated to the student
s the benefits of web sites in their research activities in Tamil.
The second session of the seminar started with a lecture on blogs in Tamil by Durai. Kumaresan. The Dean for Library, S. Gunasekaran, co-ordinator (SF), T. Dhanapalan felicitated the function. P. Kavitha Devi, Department of Library, welcomed the gathering. The Librarian G. Marimuthu and Muthuraman organised the function. The college treasurer, V.S. Manimaran, presided. The principal, J. Mahatman Rao, spoke.
The Department of Computer Applications of Thiagarajar School of Management organised a Faculty Development Programme on Computer Security Principles and Practices recently.
The objective of the programme was to provide thorough idea of security principles, control mechanisms and best practices towards effective management of resources and provoke progressive research ideas and concepts. This programme organised in associ
ation with Computer Society of India served as an eye-opener for faculties towards the security requirements, to preserve programs, data and all associated resources.
C.R. Chakravarthy, Executive Director of Computer and Scientific Analysis Group, DRDO, New Delhi, Chairman, Division IV (Communication and Data Security, CSI), started his presentation with Cryptography, a technique used to encrypt and decrypt data and crypt analysis.
D. Swaminathan, Immediate Past Chairman, CSI, Chennai chapter and vice-president, Sutherland Technologies, USA, was another resource person who delivered a lecture on ‘Security Tools’ with demonstration and discussion. He described the ‘Hacking Techniques’ and ‘Ethical Hacking’ procedures. The other topics discussed in the programme were: Cryptography Protocols – Science or Technology to encrypt / decrypt a message, Public Key Systems – Encryption Keys are made public and published, Decryption (Private) Keys are Secret, Cipher concepts – A plain text being encrypted by mean s of algorithms.
E-Security plays a vital role because India holds lots of promises in IT Industry and will play a vital role in advancement of IT and Software development.
Professor S.S. Nagamuthu Krishnan welcomed the gathering and Professor D. Sundar proposed a vote of thanks.
The Department of Gandhian Studies and Ramalinga Philosophy, Madurai Kamaraj University, celebrated “Madurai Gandhi” N.M.R. Subburaman’s birth anniversary on the very house of Subburaman that was donated to the university for Gandhian research and for Gandhian work.
Professor S. Andiappan chaired the meeting while K.M. Natarajan, a well known Gandhian activist and leader, delivered an excellent and thought provoking talk on the great qualities of Subburaman.
Dr. Andiappan pointed out that Subburaman was a visionary and spoke about his initiatives regarding underground drainage system, housing facilities to municipal workers and milk cooperative of Madurai etc.
