SKU to introduce new courses
Identifying the increasing significance of computer education in the job market the Centre for Distance Education (CDE) of Sri Krishnadevaraya University (SKU) here has decided to cash in on the trend by attracting more and more students for its distance learning courses. The university had decided either introduce to several new courses or to link computer education to a majority of the existing courses in distance learning mode.
The academic senate meeting of the university held here last week has given a go ahead to the CDE proposals to introduce new courses or new subjects in the existing courses in a phased manner. Director of the CDE Malakondaiah stated that their aim was to popularise distance learning by getting closer to youth and introducing courses of their choice, which could fetch them a livelihood.
New courses were being designed to suit the job market demands as it had become imperative to land up in a job without computer education nowadays. That was the reason why even the existing courses were being linked with the subjects in computer education, he stated.
As per the decision taken at the senate meeting, post graduate diploma courses would be introduced in computer applications, journalism and mass communication, insurance management, human rights law and e-commerce, all in English medium.
BA would be offered with computer applications in combination of history and economics; history and Telugu; economics and English; economics and political science; mathematics and economics; sociology and economics; sociology and statistics; social work and economics; and sociology and political science.
Besides, economics, history and journalism; sociology, Telugu and journalism; and history, economics and social work would also be offered in BA both in English and Telugu medium. Similarly, B.Sc would be offered with computer science in the combination of mathematics and physics; mathematics and statistics and mathematics and electronics.
Further, B.Sc would also be offered in regular streams of mathematics, physics and chemistry; mathematics, physics and electronics; botany, zoology and horticulture; botany, zoology and chemistry; botany, zoology and animal husbandry and information technology. B.Com in computers, B.Sc in library science and B.Ed would also be offered as UG courses.
In the post graduate degree level, courses would be offered in rural development, master of social work, information technology, environmental studies, biochemistry, electronics, instrumentation and master of laws. Engineering courses in computer science, electronics and communication and information technology would also be offered by the CDE.
