Bachelors in automobile engineering


I want to do bachelors degree in engineering/ technology in automobile engineering. Can I do it in India or should I go abroad? Please tell me where I can get this course and the admission procedure?

Automobile Engineering is a specialised field under mechanical engineering. A course in the field equips the students with skills to design, manufacture and repair automobiles.

The rising demand for vehicles, perturbing pollution levels and emphasis on fuel efficiency are forcing the industry to revise its technology. Newer technologies and better products are the need of the hour. In this backdrop, innovative professionals with sound knowledge are needed to support transition and redefine its horizons.

There are a good number of institutes in India that are offering automobile engineering at bachelors level. Students belonging to mechanical and allied branches of engineering can take up automobile engineering at master’s level also.

Madras Institute of Technology, Chennai, affiliated to Anna University, offers B.Tech in Automobile Engineering. The eligibility criterion is pass in Higher Secondary Examination with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry as subjects of the study or pass in Diploma Examination in Engineering/ Technology of the State Board of Technical Education. Students graduating in this course find employment in companies manufacturing automobiles and their components. The other prospects are with racing teams, and research and development centres. The USA and many countries in Europe -- Germany, Italy and France -- have developed advanced technology in the automobile field. Many universities and technology institutes have sough after courses in automobile engineering. You have to decide where you will pursue a course. You may have to learn the language of that particular country where you propose to do the course. Most universities in Germany, Italy and France impart the course in their native language. Then, you must follow the specific admission procedure to secure a seat. Typically, you are expected to take an aptitude test specific to the country conducted at international level.
