There is fabric everywhere — it hangs from racks on the sides of the room, fat files of swatches are piled high on a table that dominates the space; there’s material in every conceivable colour and texture. This is Callista, store and interior consultancy office on the bustling East Coast Road.

Although you can get customised furniture, cushions, lamps and upholstery fabric here, what Callista specialises in is window treatments. Should you go for blinds or pleated curtains? Which design of curtain rods would be most suitable? What colour should the curtains or blinds be? This is the place to come for answers.

You can sit with the designer and coordinate bed runners, cushions, and quilts to go with the window treatment you choose and get the complete look. There is plenty to choose from, as the store boasts of 2,500 different fabrics on display, many imported from Germany, Thailand and Spain and many Indian. Innovative sun control fabric and natural fibres interwoven with PVC are also available and can be used in the blinds. Design and colour accents are incorporated into these blinds by the Callista team to suit your décor. Curtain material is priced from Rs.250 to Rs.3,500 per metre and ranges from cotton and polycot to silk, linen, chenille, and jacquard; while blinds cost Rs.175 per sq. ft plus fabric cost. The cost of revamping an entire room could cost from Rs.10,000 upwards. Callista is useful because customers are encouraged to sit down with the designer and discuss interiors, themes, colours and furniture to give their home a design overhaul.
