Doctor Donut was the busiest doctor in the Dessert Hospital. His patients loved his sweet medicines and his gentle treatment.

He rolled out of his room for his daily visits to the various wards, in his white chocolate coat, with nurse Croissant jogging behind him.

His first stop was the sponge cake room, to check his patients.

“Doc, I’ve a sore bottom,” a round cake with an uneven bottom waddled over the table.

On his rounds

“Does it pain while sitting?”

“Yes,” the cake replied.

“Apply pieces of pineapples heated in maple syrup to his bottom,” Doctor Donut told the nurse. “And make him lie upside down until he feels better.”

“I’m feeling cold,” a rectangular cake shivered.

“A bath with hot chocolate will help you,” the doctor said.

“What about me, doc?” a square cake asked. “I’m feeling itchy.”

“Do you have a rash?”

“No, I just feel like scratching.”

“A dressing of white cream and icing sugar will cure it,” Doctor Donut smiled at the flaky cake.

“Doc, help me,” said a round cake with a large crack across it.

“Do you have any pain?” the doctor asked.

“No,” the cake replied. “I just feel cold and tired.”

The kind doctor smiled. “Nurse, cover him with a thick white blanket and stick M&Ms all over his face.”

Doctor Donut rolled out of the room, wheeling down the corridor with Sister Croissant jogging behind him.

He stopped outside the cupcake ward.

The small cakes were groaning in pain, clutching their stomachs, they rolled from side to side.

“Doc, we’ve a hollow feeling in our stomachs,” they rubbed their bellies.

“Hmmm…” Doctor Donut prodded the cakes with a candy cane. He made a few of them turn upside down. “This is an epidemic,” he frowned.

“Get the injections ready,” he said to the nurse.

“Please doc, no syringes,” the cupcakes cowered in fear.

“Not even injections filled with hot chocolate?” the doctor’s kind eyes’ twinkled. “I promise you won’t feel any pain,” he smiled. “In fact, you will feel nice and warm.”

“No,” the cupcakes said running all over the room.

Doctor Donut frowned. This epidemic was contagious. If he couldn’t treat it, then within a short time it would take over the hospital and there would be no desserts left.

“Let nurse help you sleep,” he said gently. “We’ll decide your treatment in the morning.”

The cupcakes lay down. Nurse Croissant fed them a spoonful of hot milk with honey.

Within a few minutes the cupcakes were snoring soundly. Filling a syringe with hot chocolate, Doctor Donut jabbed them in the stomach. As the hot chocolate seeped into their stomachs, their bellies swelled.

“Cover them with a red velvet blanket,” Doctor Donut told the nurse. “They will be fine in the morning.”
