Bolt wins; van Niekerk breaks record in 300 m race

Before Usain Bolt came on the track and did what he does best – win a 100m race – South African Wayde van Niekerk enthused the Ostrava crowd by blistering through the rare 300m race, winning it in a world record time of 30.81 seconds.

BASKETBALL

Rockets acquire Chris Paul

In exchange for some money, a first-round protected pick next year and seven current players, Los Angeles Clippers sent their star player Chris Paul to the Houston Rockets.

This means that along with James Harden, the Rockets now possess enough fire power to increase their ambitions.

FOOTBALL

Portugal draw blanks against Bravo barricade

After the first semi-final between Portugal and Chile at the Confederations Cup came to end as a goalless draw, it went down to penalties.

Chile goalkeeper Claudio Bravo emerged as the hero as he stopped all three penalties, while his team-mates converted all three of them, to ensure passage into Sunday’s final.

Ledecky wins 200 m freestyle at US trials

Ahead of the World Championships next month in Budapest, Hungary, Katie Ledecky signalled her intentions by winning the 200 m freestyle event at the US trials in a time of 1 minute 54.84 seconds. She is still in line to swim in four individual events and two relay events at next month’s worlds.
