Black urges tennis chiefs to protect players like Serena

Former tennis player and Miami Open tournament director James Black urged WTA chiefs to rethink seeding rules, pointing to Serena Williams’ case in particular.

Williams, returning to the game after a 13-month maternity break, will not be seeded in the Miami Open and faces newly-crowned Indian Wells champion Naomi Osaka in the first round.

Blake said that “it’s a kind of punishment” and made it clear that he would favour players being protected in these kind of situations.
