Vintage cars, some of which are hundred years old, have become a major source of attraction at the ongoing Auto Expo 2010 in New Delhi. The Heritage Motoring Club of India is behind the initiative of showcasing around 50 cars.

“On an average, between forty-fifty cars are displayed on every Auto Expo. Apart from that, we do lot of other events where we do parades, rallies, shows, drives, including long distance drives. The main purpose in doing all of these is to stimulate public interest and restoration, preservation and collection of vintage classic automobiles,” said Diljeet Titus, the General Secretary of HMCI (Heritage Motoring Club Of India).

Some of the cars exhibited in the show were vintage BMW Isetta 300, Buick Series 90L, Jaguar XK120, Mercedes 180 Pontoon, and even a 1966 Mustang.

S.B. Jatti, Vice President of HMCI said that the HMCI has taken the onus on directing owners on the care and maintenance of the cars.

“Maintenance itself is one of the main reasons or objectives of our club, to help people maintain these cars. We identify people who supply parts. We also have a website where we are given parts locator, and we also guide our members how to maintain these cars,” said Jatti.

The 10th India Auto Expo kicked off in here January 5 and would continue for a week.

Auto Expo is a complete automotive show organized jointly by Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
