UBI mulls opening 210 branches in 2010

Public sector lender Union Bank of India on Saturday said it plans to open 210 branches across the country this year, with 43 of them coming up in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

“We have recently opened 260 branches all over the country and another 210 new offices will be set up this year.

Out of the total, 43 will come up in Tamil Nadu and Kerala”, UBI Executive Director S.C. Kalia told reporters here.

Apart from opening new branches, UBI also proposes to set up ATMs (Automated Teller Machines) at all the new offices.

Stating that the bank was also planning to venture overseas, he said “we are planning to open branches in Asian as well as African regions in the coming years“.

He said UBI expected to get Rs. 3 lakh crore business by this fiscal. “Our bank is all set to become one among the three top public sector banks by 2012,” he claimed.
